Signs of Spring...

On Monday, we played a game here in my Necessary Room called "What's it like in your neck of the woods?" It was simple, yet fun and fascinating to play with others in the blogosphere. A big THANKS to all who participated.

I came to realise that for some of you, Spring has not quite arrived yet. I say this not to taunt you or anything, because JAH know, when Spring's seasonal dance is in full swing, I suffer greatly from hayfever, allergies and asthma. Nonetheless, I will clench to Mother Nature's beauty even as she literally takes the breath out of my body.

This morning my daughter and I decided to play a new game while taking another walk in the woods. We called this one "Signs of Spring".

*We noticed several blossoms and even saw a tree in bloom today. Most trees, except for the evergreens like Pine, still have no leaves. But the buds are beginning to force themselves open.

*A willow danced gracefully as the wind gently passed through her branches.

*The birds were out -- hanging out and spending some quality time together. We saw doves, blue jays, ducks, crows, sand hill cranes, chickadees, and heard the sweet song of others we either couldn't see or identify. I don't know what the male duck had up his wing, but as soon as we approached the water's edge, the couple quickly swam away all guiltylike. Or, maybe we just got too close and startled them. ;-) You make the call.

*We walked further in the woods. Soon we were greeted by a crew team out for their morning practice on the non-icy river. We cheered them on.

After taking it all in, we returned home and made this doll quilt with matching satchet for her friend's birthday gift.

I sit here now just curious about the "Signs of Spring" in your neck of the woods and wondering which birds are visiting your backyard. Hmmmmmm.

Looks like you had a wonderful walk and saw lots of spring. I love your pictures, especially the dancing tree! What a lovely present you made for your daughters friend. Spring is already totally here where we are now. We spent today in the garden and it was like summer :)

Thank you for taking us along on your walk! We are hearing so much bird song in the mornings here. It is so wonderful to hear! My crocus are up, but they are staying closed because it's too cloudy and chilly for them to open!

Thanks for inviting us on your spring time discovery walk, love the wind blown willow. Here we are having the first warm weather in many months, and I was out all day. robins, red wing blackbirds, finches, flickers, and song sparrows, to name a few.
Have a beautiful weekend!

What a lovely walk you took us on. Love the willow tree photo! We had our first nice, warm day yesterday, and I was able to work out in the yard and I was actually sweating. How cool is that!

sounds like a nice spring walk with your daughter.
i observed many birds today, busy making their homes I'm sure. There were robins, bluebirds, cardinals, wrens, chickadees, woodpecker, titmice and towhees. our azaleas are almost fully opened (ours are usually later than our neighbors). if the freezing temps this week don't damage the blossoms, everything should look gorgeous by Easter.

you asked how i get the black border on our images. i bring the images into a photoshop template I made and then save out as a jpg for each post.

We've got lots of fat robins, daffodils, and redbuds. We've also got snow in the forecast for tomorrow. CRIPES!!

Hey you.. Well, I have woods behind my house and usually I can see a glimpse of the two neighbor's homes that are on the other side of the woods. Now, I can't see the homes at all because of the fullness of the trees. I always say,"Spring is here!" when the homes are no longer visible.

And everything looks just a little bit greener.

You have absolutely beautiful photos of Spring waking up! Thank you for allowing us to share this cool game...

P.S. I see a lot of Blue Jays, Red Cardinals, Robins and my husband have seen doves today... It's almost as if they are having a serious party in our backyard.

The doll quilt and satchet are adorable. That's such a great, great gift and so thoughtful!!! You've got skills...
