promoting the arts...

once upon a time
this building was the talk of the town
children danced merrily inside this studio
until it was turned into a latin grocery store
then, that too was later abandoned.

dance studios and creative art centres
have all but disappeared from many inner cities
but fortunately for some of us
is now on their north american tour.

hope you are enjoying your sunday.

one love.

As a ballet dancer, Alvin Ailey is one of my all-time favorite groups! I even did their dance "Revelations" once and I loved it... What a cool building as well!

In the last couple of years our area of the city has been busy trying to implement more arts in our neighborhood and it has done really well, we are becoming known for it. It really is a rebuilding of the Avenue and making our community a better one. Loved the photos, hope you are well and enjoy your week. one love to you too. take care.

How lonely this building looks, un-used... But how vibrant the painted dancers are! Love Alvin Ailey! Happy Day, my friend :o) ((HUGS))

That is sad to lose a place of joy and art. I wonder why this one closed.

Hi Se'Lah

I'm new to your blog via Kass of the non silent k. I love the idea of a necessary room or as Virginia Woolf would ave called it, 'a room of one's own'. I look forward to visiting you again from here in Australia.

Though the organized and community based places for our youth to explore the arts may be so tragically limited, the arts themslves will always be strong. We are all creative beings and expressing our One Love is our purpose here.
I know you already know this, beautiful One. May you dance through your day!

Your pictures are so stirring on this blog. I'm a great fan of all the arts. I would love to see Alvin Ailey if he comes near Utah. Thanks for your comments on my poems.
