lift as you climb...

a few days ago, i was reflecting on injustice, the prevalence of atrocities around the world, and whether we think it is our responsibility to speak up, or stand up, on behalf of those who suffer as a result.  all weekend, i couldn't shake my thoughts.  sadly, i recognise that as much as i would love to, it is not humanly possible for me to solve all these issues by myself, but i also know that i can (and must) contribute to the solution.  even if for only one person.  for just one moment.  i need to be the change i want to see in the world.

i paused for a moment and prayed deeply for those living in despair.  (exhale).  i sat thinking about what i could personally do to help them. a thousand thoughts flooded my mind.  and it was while i was swimming around in these thoughts that this old proverb crept into my consciousness - lift as you climb.  yes.  that's the answer.  we must lift as we climb for the betterment of humanity.  so that the hungry may be fed; the naked clothed, the sick nourished, the aged protected and infants cared for.  and i can start with one random act of kindness.

hey, did you know that the 13th of November, 2010 is World Kindness Day?

wouldn't that be a wonderful day to collectively perform a random act of kindness?  care to join Anyes and I?

one love.

I love these thoughts "life as you climb". Sometimes when we are in turmoil and trying to pay attention, creative thoughts do come to us.

You are always so inspiring, Se'Lah. So caring about others who are less fortunate and wanting to do what you can to help. I love the thought of "lift as you climb" and the idea of starting with one act of kindness. Count me in. =)

Oh, my dear friend... we think much the same. I often feel the weight of so many things, so many sufferings of others on my shoulders--wishing so much I could do all, help all. But my metta, loving-kindness meditation practice help. To breathe in & out compassion for others is a good step, a small step... but a step. :o) I love the idea of random act of kindness--a day for just that. Happy Day, Se'Lah ((LOVE & HUGS))

I'm on a lot of lists. It's physically impossible to respond to each atrocity, each inequity, each solvable problem that comes to my inbox. So each day, I sign a petition or two, post a few on Facebook or Twitter, and give in whatever way I can to whatever I can. Awareness is the first step in solving these problems. Those of us who write can continue to use our forums to help raise awareness.

Thank you for doing your part, Se'lah.

Se'lah,
Wonderful ideas. Always hope to inspire others. For those who have commented about not knowing what to do as a random act of kindness, How about pick fruit from a neighbor's tree and donate to a soup kitchen, food bank, homeless shelter. Ask permission first, or course. The poor and the hungry will benefit from healthy, fresh produce. Bless you. Warmest thoughts. Count me in!
