it started as a love story...

it started as a love story
but soon she was cowering beneath
his raised hand and furrowed brows
like a child of God she forgave him, each time
made excuses for his unrelenting anger
until one day the unthinkable happened
he beat her til she knew not herself anymore
nor could those around her recognise her
for she became like a child
happy to have survived
the brutal beating she sustained
at his oh so "loving" hands.

*remembering victims of domestic violence*
one love.

So very true. You do such great work to bring light to so many things going on in our world.

It happens too often...our state seems to rank very highly in domestic abuse...shame, shame! I contribute to care packages for the woman's shelter...it seems such a small thing.

love you for using your instrument of peace, love and justice to shine a harsh light on an ugly, brutal crime.

What warm thought for domestic violence victims. Thanks for your words.

I pray that anyone in this situation will call a shelter and get out of it. That they will save themselves and their children, hopefully breaking the cycle for them, by doing all they can to leave the situation. I know it's not easy to leave, but if your loved one hits you once, they will hit you again. People do care for you, no matter what "he" tells you. Call a shelter today.

Much love, Sharon

POWERFUL.

How does that loving person turn into someone else? Sometimes the signs are there, often not. There IS A WAY OUT before it's too late.

oh gosh, so true ... and then they are the ones who have to take the psychological violence which can be as 'deadly' (I know someone like that ...) ... sending love my friend!

oh my goodness that makes me want to cry and to hug my husband who loves me more than I can even imagine and who has never raised a hand to me in nearly 30 years. I am so grateful I have never had to experience the violence of bad love

That is not love.
But real LOVE for self, and from those with open hearts is what will heal it.
One Big Love, Sweet One !

A sad but beautiful and thought-provoking poem in honor of something that should never happen to anyone. Such painful irony between the photo and your words.
