every once in a while, my mind wanders
it goes off to many faraway places
i love thinking. i love reasoning
it's just a favourite pastime
and i can no longer deny it
i love to exercise my brain
*so, with all due respect, maybe you can answer me one burning question that none of my science teachers ever would answer satisfactorily for me. if men landed on the moon 40 years ago today, and technology has undoubtedly become more advanced with time, and men have explored many corners of space in great detail since then, how come they have not returned to the moon since the early '70's? i just need an answer (you science buff's out there)...

No answer to this one, but I can tell you where mum was on this date 40 years ago at the very moment the man laded on the moon. She was swearing at the doctors "pay attention ya fools, dis baby coming out, forget dat dammed man on the moon!!!"
lol
xo
you are a thinker !
and now I'm wondering the same thing :)
{and those photos on my blog were just more from that same photo shoot}
what a ray of hope this photo delivers!!! You know, I have no EARTHLY idea why man has not been back to the moon....get it??? LOL! It's probably because they are too busy trying to get to Mars...
I agree with vchelle, they have their sights on bigger and better things. My son dreams of the day they land on mars, much like my older brother dreamed of the day they'd land on the moon.
It's not cost effective. There is nothing there to exploit. It would cost too much to develop it and make it habitable or useful as a playground. They can't charge enough to make it profitable to take the rich people who would do it on a lark. No profit. Nothing to gain by going. No records to break. Been there...done that...bought the t-shirt.
(Does this answer make me sound jaded?)
love your photo ...no science from me~elk
Your photo is full of earthly beauty! I'm with vchelle, I think they have their sights set on bigger and further away things.
Wanda, jaded yes, but such a lovely shade of jade ....
Se'Lah, the morning news yesterday supplied a quote from one of the astronauts, I'll paraphrase: There's nothing there, no point in going back.
The main reason has been a question of priorities. The tightest part of the space race was during the Cold War.Both the US and the USSR wanted to show who was the 'man'. After the Cold War, the US has maintained the lead in aeronautics/space.There's not the same sense of purpose. The international space community is important and a superpower showing off is less important.
We no longer need to send manned missions to the moon. The US and other nations have sent unmanned probes to the moon since the '60s (I know you think that the moon landing was a hoax but other countries have sent probes and had unmanned landings on the moon-- the US couldn't have faked all those too) :)
your pseudoscientific friend, hermie
good question.
but i'd say that it was because there wasn't any real reason to do so. they had accomplished what they wanted and it served the purpose they wanted and so once that was done, there wasn't really any reason to go back.
either that or they know there's no oil there...
There's nothing there. Seriously, that's what I think. We did it and now it's on to bigger and better things. Not saying I agree - just that it's what I think.
Anyway. Did you take that amazing, perfect, happy-making image??
I'm not a science buff, but that's an interesting question!
Gorgeous photo :)
